Jennifer Kershaw ~ Fine Artist

Jennifer KershawJennifer Kershaw - Self Portrait

In 2004, I earned my B.A. Honours degree from the University of Guelph, majoring in Studio Art with a minor in Art History, graduating as an Ontario Scholar. Soon after, my husband and I loaded up our Pontiac and an equally decrepit U-Haul and headed off to Ottawa, Ontario to begin a new life.

I use glass, reflective surfaces, and flesh as a way of trying to capture something as ephemeral as light and time; light measures our days as it illuminates our ways. The fruit and other organic materials in my work serve as a secular memento mori: a reminder of the brevity of life, the inevitability of death, and the need to enjoy while it lasts.

In another sense, I use light in the form of keeping things light through humour and whimsy. Life is short, so it's important to take the time to have a laugh every now and then, because tomorrow never knows.
