“Nolite Te Bastardes Carborundorum” is the latest in my series of paintings dedicated to the importance of storytelling and literacy. It is a love letter to Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale and the lessons it tried to impart and the dangers it alerted us to. It is a warning, but equally important, it is a testament to the strength, power, and resilience of women.

In a world where Scrabble is subversive, reading and writing become acts of resistance. “Don’t Let The Bastards Grind You Down” scrawled in the closet by the previous handmaid, is a rallying battle cry for us all.
